Program Overview


The Bank of the Philippine Islands' 5th BPInoy Awards


The BPInoy Awards is being run for the fifth year by the Bank of the Philippine Islands in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Filipinos who have given their country honor and pride by excelling in their chosen fields of endeavor abroad.


The Bank of the Philippine Islands considers one of its principal thrusts the commitment to serve our fellow countrymen outside of the Philippines. In terms of the country's economic progression and growth, BPI recognizes the significance of their contribution to the country, not only through their remittances; but more importantly, through the honor they have brought our people for simply being exemplary workers or excellent working professionals abroad.


Objectives
The BPInoy Awards project aims to:
Honor and recognize outstanding achievements of Filipinos abroad;
Communicate BPI's commitment to excellence and nationalism among Filipinos abroad;
To generate public awareness on BPI's initiatives to support overseas Filipinos via their Expat Pinoys Program;


Nomination and Selection
Nominations is now open to the public up to September 15, 2010.

1.
Nominate an Overseas Filipino
Do you know an Overseas Filipino who deserves to be recognized for his exemplary performance abroad?
Nominate your BPInoy Awardee
Ensure that he/she complies with the selection criteria:
o
Must be a Filipino citizen, whether natural-born or by either parentage, regardless of current citizenship
o
Must have lived and or worked abroad
o
Must still be active in his/her chosen field
o
Must have a clean conduct of record
o
Must not have been given any similar award by another banking institution

Awarding Process
a.
Names will be received by the BPInoy Awards Secretariat
b.
All names submitted or nominated by or to the BPInoy Awards Steering Committee shall be researched and evaluated based on the following criteria.
i.
40% - Fame, ranking or celebrity status (name-rings-a-bell criterion)
ii.
30% - Extent of success/contribution of his-her profession abroad (including awards, recognitions, citations, other honors received from prestigious or known organizations abroad)
iii.
20% - Known involvement in any Philippine-based undertaking, in varied fields
iv.
Extent of nomination (number of times name mentioned, who made the nomination)
c.
All qualified names will be scored and ranked by the Steering Committee.
d.
Two winners will be declared – one with highest score from the Arts and Media or Sports Category and one with highest score from the Business or Science and Technology Category.
e.
Should in a rare case of winner not willing to accept the award, the next highest ranking name in same category will be declared winner.
f.
Winners will be notified by the Secretariat.
g.
Awarding shall be held in the Philippines and winner can assign a representative to receive the award in his behalf. BPI shall, however make sure that at least one of the two winners are present during the awarding ceremony.
h.
Winner receives a BPInoy plaque and P100,000-worth of cash donation to his/her chosen local charity.

Now in its fifth year, the BPInoy Awards has honored the likes of world-renowned musical theater artist Lea Salonga (2006), US-based technology entrepreneur Diosdado "Dado" Banatao (2006), internationally-known fashion designer Monique Lhuillier (2007), famous heart surgeon Dr. Jorge Garcia (2007) of Asian Hospital & Medical Center., fashion designer and entrepreneur Josie Natori, (2008), BBC anchor Rico Hizon (2008). chief executive chef for the white house Cristeta Comerford, (2009), renowned economist Dr. Eli Remolona, (2009), and painter Anita Magsaysay-Ho, (2009).
